2017-2018 Event Summary

1. Weekly Member Meetings at Lunch, in the Tech Room. The goal of the weekly general member meetings was to support a structured meeting time to remain visible and accountable among the student community here at JH Hull Middle School. This was a meeting open to all students, even if male students wanted to come and support the cause. The meetings involved STEM competitions, information sessions and more hosted by the Hawks Build LA Officers and Advisers. Approximately 107 students have circulated through the Wednesday lunch meetings.

2. Enrichment College/Career/STEM Workshops. These only lasted for two weeks after the school site restructured the expectations and criteria for enrichment and clubs could no longer use this time. However, following our successful template from last year the officers planned NGSS aligned activities and competition for their peers. Approximately 70 students were attended.

3. STEM Family Night. This was hosted on March 20th and was open to all members of our JH Hull community. Approximately 57 students were involved in hosting a session or supported a STEM activity. Eleven teachers supported and volunteered their time for the college/career/STEM sessions. Ten high school student volunteers helped at the event. A total of 213 attendees were counted.

4. Field trips. Hawk Build LA were able to support a total of 35 additional female students in attending the LA Promise Fund Leadership Summit. Further, Hawks Build LA was able to support all female teams in the Torrance High School Girls in Action Program involving 50 students, total.

5. Solar S'more Roast Off. A total of 279 students were involved in the Solar S'more Roast Off where our officers were able to engage their classmates in their engineering design project (Solar Roasters) on a school day.

6. Earth Week. Hawks Build LA supported a school site club, called the Planet Hawk Heroes. They were actually made of a all female team of 30 students. It was a great way to advertise the club to them while supporting their week long events.

7. Career Day. Hawk Build LA Officers went to various homerooms on Career Day and provided a session to help students take a quiz to determine their STEM Jobs and encouraged them to research college and career interests on specific websites shared by the LA Promise Fund.

8. Officer Meetings on Friday. This was the organizational and planning time for the officers that occurred every Friday from September to May.
